Is Hangmans cottage Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Hangmans Cottage is not suitable for children. The property is designed as a romantic bolthole for two adults with just one double bedroom. The steep narrow stairs to the bedroom present safety concerns for young children. The small living space and antique furnishings are better suited to adult guests who can appreciate the period features and compact layout.
For Couples
Perfect for romantic breaks. The woodburning stove creates intimate evenings while the walled garden offers private outdoor dining. The heated summerhouse provides a secluded retreat for morning coffee or evening drinks. One super comfortable double bed ensures restful nights. The location allows couples to explore antique shops, enjoy pub meals within walking distance and return to a peaceful pedestrianised street. Welcome provisions include wine and local treats.
Pet Friendly
Hangmans Cottage does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no-pets policy to maintain cleanliness standards and accommodate guests with allergies. The small size of the cottage and period furnishings make it unsuitable for animals. The walled garden, while secure, is designed as a guest relaxation space rather than a pet exercise area. Alternative pet-friendly accommodation should be sought in the Horncastle area.

Hangmans cottage Reviews

The cottage was finished to a very high standard. Little personal touches around the cottage made it feel very much like home. One thing we would say was about the stairs leading up to the bedroom. They are very steep and narrow and both of us felt they would benefit from another form of either rope or solid handrail on the right side going up. Other than that it was superb. Having the benefit of a heated summer house meant we could enjoy the outside inside. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
Hangman's cottage was wonderful. The cottage was equipped with everything we could possibly need. Lovely personal touches such as fresh flowers fruit, bread, and milk. The garden and summer house are a delight. Horncastle is central for everywhere you may wish to travel. A very friendly and historic town. Easy parking. We highly recommend Hangman's Cottage. Spotlessly clean.
Michelle
A little gem of a place. 5 star service, with so much attention to detail, the added extras were very thoughtful and appreciated. Ideal location for exploring the town and surrounding areas. We had a wonderful three days and will definitely return. One of the best holiday lets we have stayed in. Can highly recommend.
We had amazing stay over the Christmas holidays, and was made even more special by how the cottage & garden was decorated for Christmas, it was beautiful. The little extras like the cake, fruit, cheese, was very much appreciated. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. A Home from Home! A big thank you to the owners, we will return.
We love this cottage, I never want to return anywhere and yet this was our 3rd visit to Hangman's Cottage. Although tiny it is very well designed and has everything you need. Everything has been considered and all the quirky bits and pieces are a delight. The garden is lovely too, even out of season, and the summerhouse is full of things to help you while away a few hours. It is beautifully decorated for Christmas too. Horncastle is a great little town for mooching around, architecturally interesting with great independent shops and welcoming pubs and cafes. I can't recommend this place highly enough, I would live here if I could
This was our second time at this lovely cottage, we really enjoyed the changes made to the living room, the new sofa is really comfortable and ideal for watching the new TV or log burner. The owner always makes us feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble. We plan to return soon.
Top quality decor and appliances made this a luxurious holiday. The garden and summerhouse is also a beautiful addition! The cottage far surpasses it's generous price tag. Congratulations. 100 feedback.
Very comfortable, clean and wellequipped, making excellent use of the small space. Lots of thoughtful touches, and lovely walled garden. Thank you!
Yvonne
We had a wonderful stay at Hangman's Cottage. It is beautifully furnished and equipped. You can tell so much thought has gone into creating such a welcoming and interesting space. A delightful base from which to explore Lincolnshire.
Gerard
We thought the property was very tastefully furnished with lovely antiques which complemented the old house. Our stay was very comfortable and we loved the option of being able to sit in the summer house in the wonderful walled garden. Everywhere was so clean and tidy ,the bed was so comfortable and the bathroom towels were so soft ,we loved our stay very very much ,thank you.
The cottage has both the exceptional qualities of being both welcoming and accommodating coupled with detailed style and great taste . We especially enjoyed the garden and the adjoining garden room , where we have spent some glorious hours in the late summer sunshine. The little touches , such as the bottles of wine and artisan bread . It has been a terrific venue for our holiday and would not hesitate to endorse the cottage to others , We will return .
The welcome pack, the history, the garden & the location are all wonderful. One of the best properties we've ever stayed in!! We'd recommend the spa trail and visits to Baumber walled garden and especially Tattershall castle.
A small property but fine to two. High standards of cleanliness, furnishings and equipment. It seemed like everything you could think of was catered for and many you hadn't thought about. Very well managed property. Superb garden with summer house and BBQ area. Ideal location in Horncastle close to the church.
Beautiful property. Every detail considered. Despite the compact space, all very well stocked. Lots of thoughtful extras like wine and breakfast provision. Spacious, relaxing garden. All very tastefully decorated. Immaculately clean. For future guests, worth noting that the stairwell is very tight.
Kenneth
This is a lovely olde world cottage with all the modern facilities. We loved our stay even though the stairs were an initial challenge but we soon got used to them. The use of the lovely garden and summerhouse were a real bonus. The bed was super comfortable. On arrival the welcome goodies were much appreciated. We learned a lot about the history of the property and of the town.
Andrew Derek
Excellent cottage. Our only issue was that the sofa was uncomfortably but we do understand that they can only fit a small one in but if they could find something a bit more comfortable then you.cant fault this cottage at all. Also the welcome pack and many items they left us was far better than anything else we have ever had.
Claire
Compact but well equipped, once Id found the cutlery draw! Really tastefully done.
We really enjoyed our week in Hangmans cottage, the welcome pack was very generous and the cottage was immaculate. Kitchen was well equipped, bed was comfortable and shower was lovely. Garden was a beautiful place to relax and read a book. Cottage was ideally located just a short walk to the shops and pub and not far from Woodall Spa and Louth. Planning a return trip soon.
Perfect, just perfect
Hangmans Cottage is small but perfectly formed! Everything is there that you need and its immaculate and clean. I had a lovely weeks stay and must say the summer house is a real sun trap. The only things I would mention are that the stairs are quite narrow and steep also a light on the stairs would be useful. But yes I would book again.
Fantastic, well equipped property. Feels like a real labour of love.
Joanna
Hangmans Cottage is a very special place to stay, with features that definitely set it apart from most other places we have rented. As well as the unique history which we enjoyed reading about the evident care and attention to detail, imaginative use of the space and extremely generous 'treats' and other things left for guests' use were hugely appreciated. After a long drive, it was simply a delight to arrive into such a warm and cosy space with the gentle sound of radio playing in the background. Instructions provided for access and parking were clear and helpful. luckily, we were always able to park in the layby. A great base for exploring the Wolds, coastline and Lincoln. Our only regret was not staying for longer and being unable to more fully enjoy the beautifully designed garden early March cold snap.
Such a wonderful little cottage! Can't fault it at all. Safe, cosy, warm, welcoming, a lovely home from home for a week. Particularly love the information left about the property and William Marwood, those cute little shoes in the window. The attention to detail in the property is spot on. Thank you for a restful, comfortable escape from normality. Hope to be back one day.
Joanne
Appreciated warmth of cottage on arrival and the welcome pack . Very well thought out use of space and excellent amount of equipment provided. Nothing to find fault with. Clear instructions for access and key box which arrived in plenty of time for stay. Cottage located easy access to town and bus stop Was able to spend a happy day in Lincoln.
Claire
This house was great, myself and my mum loved it! We go away every November, and try to find some luxury and quirkiness, this cottage ticked both of those requirements! We loved the welcome pack and cake! We have never been encouraged to go through the cupboards before, but loved this extra detail, we found so many hidden surprises! Cottage was in a perfect position, close to shops restaurants! Only issue we had was two nights, couldn't park in the layby and we think there was a football rugby match on as the town was packed with cars? But it didn't ruin our stay. The only thing I didn't quite like in the house was the radio on when I walked in, I panicked thinking there was people in there, never had that before! But all in all this Is a fantastic piece of history and a great holiday cottage, we've both recommended it to all our friends and family!!
5 Star property! It was a very last minute decision to go away for the weekend booked Friday lunchtime and arrived at the cottage early evening. As soon as we walked into the cottage we knew wed made a good choice. We were greeted with the lamps on and music playing softly. What a welcome! We were also given a fabulous welcome pack, no need to nip out for anything. Thank you so much to the owners for being so thoughtful. The cottage is more like a home than a holiday property in that there is so much love and thought to every detail. The garden and summer house is a fabulous bonus although as were there for a short stay we didnt use it other than a quick walk around looking at everything. Hangmans cottage is in an ideal spot for walking around Horncastle, in just a few minutes you can be in shops or restaurants, pubs or tea rooms. We would love to visit again
This was my fourth visit to the cottage. Everything you could think of is provided in such a way to maximise the space available. It s warm and cosy and the perfect base to explore, cycle or fish in that part of Lincolnshire. The Owners go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect, allowing you to relax totally.
What a great property! Comfortable and warm, handy for Horncastle and in a lovely historic building. The cottage has been lovingly and creatively designed to fit everything in you would ever need and looks beautiful. Will definitely return!
Stephen
A fabulous little cottage, with a beautiful garden and summerhouse. Joy and James have obviously put so much effort into creating a comfortable and cosy place for their guests to stay, and it's clear that they get fulfillment from knowing that their guests were happy. Quite apart from the wonderful accommodation and beautiful new appliances, you're welcomed with a lovely welcome pack on arrival, full of local produce. What a pleasure it was to stay at this cottage!
Debbie
The cottage was a delight, full of quirky bits and pieces. Garden and summerhouse were an added extra. Lovely little treats left for our arrival.
Jacqueline
A wonderful stay at Hangman's Cottage. Many thanks for the superb welcome pack. The owners have thought of everything to make a stay here memorable.Weather was not the best but spent many hours in the fantastic summerhouse sewing and reading. The garden is amazing . Thank you so much. Jackie and David
This was by far one of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in and there have been a few. The cottage, was spotless and fully equipped with very good quality kitchen utensils. The garden was an absolute gem and the summer house and gazebo an absolute bonus. The welcome pack provided by the host was so lovely and included the delicious Lincolnshire Plum loaf, fresh bread from a local bakery, and much more. Horncastle is a great place to explore Lincolnshire from, and Horncastle itself has some lovely shops including a bakerylovely Italian Restaurant, good pubs and a great cafe selling delicious food and coffee.
Graham
Fantastic renovation of this small cottage, very high quality. Great holiday week for us, hot weather, ceiling fan would have helped in the bedroom as due to the main road noise windows needed to be shut. The walled garden a great bonus with all the facilities, summer house, outdoor seating lush planting. A narrow stair may not suit everyone to access the bedroom, Welcome pack a very nice thought. Parking a bit of a lottery Great value cottage
Michelle
Hangman's cottage is a super find! A real gem! The cottage is very well thought out, utilising the space available to an optimum. Cozy and comfortable but with a high end finish offering making it feel luxurious too. The garden is truly lovely with the offer of helping yourself to any of the fruit or veg growing. Even with not great weather being able to sit out in the summer house was a treat. Talking of treats, the welcome package was an unexpected treat with goodies from the local bakery and fresh fruit. The bed was another notable bonus how often do you not get a good nights sleep on holiday due to the cheap mattress well not here, truly comfy! Cant wait to visit again.
Samantha
A lovely little cottage! We had an amazing stay in this little village. The property was lovely and had everything we could possibly need provided. A favourite for us was the stunning garden.
Samantha
Very impressed with Hangman's Cottage. The space is compact, and has been beautifully designed to a very high standard, immaculately kept and well equipped. We had everything we needed to explore Horncastle and the wider Lincolnshire surroundings during our stay. The hospitality of the hosts in providing local produce for us was very much noticed and appreciated! I've not stayed anywhere else that provided such a range of supplies the basics such as teabags and cornflakes were well covered, but also jam, local honey, bread, milk, fruit, Lincolnshire plum loaf, and fresh lettuce from the garden. Speaking of the garden it is beautiful. We had good enough weather that we were able to sit outside and read, and I tuned and played the guitar in the summerhouse. We would absolutely come back. This property really is a gem and does Sykes proud.
Caroline
We have been trying to book this beautiful cottage for a while now & was so pleased we were able to wasnt disappointed at all. From the moment you walk through the gate, you are greeted with charm, elegance & a fab garden with a lovely summer house, BBQ area & everything you need to chill & relax solar lights make the garden look magical cannot fault it.that is just outside! The cottage itself has been restored to perfection with so much effort, attention to detail & love. The welcome pack far more than expected & was very well received pot of local honey gorgeous. The cottage is based in a good area to explore & the Kings Head thatch pub made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend a stay owners have thought of everything to make the stay perfect. Thank you
