The Stable Reviews

Sheila
An excellent place to stay which is situated towards the centre of the village and convenient for all amenities. It is easy to access by road, rail or bus. There is plenty of places to see and explore within the local area and I would highly recommend this staycation to anyone.
Lovely property, spacious, light, bright and well equipped. Garden seating area is a real sun trap and perfect for a morning cuppa or a glass of wine after a day out exploring. Great location, only a couple of minutes walk to train station and only 11 minutes to get into Lincoln. Host provided lots of suggestions of places to visit.
We have stayed at the Stables many times it is a lovely dog friendly property with all conveniences in the historic village of Saxilby. It has handy links with the train station for nearby Lincoln. Love going to Doddington Hall for breakfast, visiting Lincoln castle, cathedral and Bomber Command. The owners of the Stables are friendly and helpful and are at the end of the phone if anything needs sorting.
Had a lovely stay at the stables, had a lovely welcome pack very much appreciated plus the lovely fresh flowers. Great location and plenty to do in the local area. People are very friendly in the village, local shop right on your doorstep plus scummy cafe is really great we had a really good breakfast there and the staff are lovely. Lots of places locally to walk. We took the train to Lincoln only takes 10 minutes great place to walk round. Meet the owner really friendly and helpful. We definitely recommend staying here and we probably will go back in the near future.
Nicola
Nice, well provisioned cottage. Lovely welcome pack. Close to all local amenities. Was good to have a garden & patio in this lovely weather.
Kathleen
Our stay was from 13th September to 20th September. Thank you for the gifts on arrival, most enjoyable. The Stable had everything we needed, extremely comfortable and homely. We had fabulous weather so we were able to sit in the garden and enjoy the sunshine. Very peaceful we both loved Saxilby and walking along the canal. Everything is so near by, the Coop, bus stops and train station. Would certainly stay there again. Regards Kathy and Paul
The Stables is a well maintained property in a great location with tasteful decor throughout. Everything was provided including welcome goodies of cheese, Prosecco and Lincoln plum bread. The property was close to rail and transport links and has parking for 2 vehicles which we considered essential. We definitely intend to come back to The Stables at the next opportunity and wouldnt hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage.

I had a lovely weekend, the property was very comfortable, and had everything you needed. The garden was pleasant and much larger than I had thought from the pictures. The location was quiet, especially when you consider it was in the middle of a village. Parking was easy as well as access to the property. Thank you.
Allison
Initially looked lovely, bright and airy. Unfortunately the property in our opinion wasnt that clean. The fridge needed a good clean with food left in the freezer. The cutlery and some of the pans required a good scrub. The duvet cover in the main bedroom looked shabby with pulls in the material and could do with being replaced. There were a lot of cobwebs and spiders on the windowsills and skylights. Outside offered an enclosed garden which was great for the dogs however the grass was overgrown, the owner said on our arrival that he would be back in a day or two to cut but unfortunately this didnt happen. On a positive the weather was great during our stay so the garden furniture was appreciated. The owners left a note in the property about the sap from the tree which is in the allotted parking area so youll need to be mindful when parking up unless you want to wash the sticky sap off every day.
Matthew
We had a lovely stay. The cottage is beautiful and we loved the village. Very easy to get the train to Lincoln and travel to the seaside. There was two things I would have liked. A dishwasher instead of a tumble dryer and a parasol in the garden. Theres a lovely seating area but its south facing so there was no shade to sit in. Other than that it was perfect for us
Excellent property, would highly recommend, great location for all amenities inc train station 10 min to Lincoln. Lovely welcome pack even biscuits for the dog. Looking forward to stay again.
Adrian

We loved The Stables. Such a comfortable we'll equipped cottage in a very nice village. Perfect for exploring the region. Extra touches in the cottage very welcome with plenty of charging plugs and very comfortable beds. Good parking outside and nice garden. The extra treats left were a welcome surprise. Definitely recommend
Andrew
A comfortable, cosy cottage in a great location. Really enjoyed our stay.
Christine
The Stable is very well located, very clean and comfortable and the Hosts are very welcoming. The is my second stay and I will be happy to return again.
Thomas
A gem of a cottage tucked away in a quiet culdesac near the centre of a large village with lots of amenities shops and pubs close by. Perfectly situated for travelling into Lincoln with a train station about 5 minutes walk away. The property itself is clean, airy and comfortable with a good patio area suitable for al fresco dining. Beds are very comfortable and bathroom and kitchen facilities excellent. We much appreciated a welcoming bottle of wine, flowers, plum loaf and cheese a nice touch. Our stay coincided with a notable drop in temperature and we did struggle a bit to cope with the heating controls for which clearer instructions andor a simpler method of operation would have been welcome. The gas boiler also emitted a slight whining noise when running. Other than that, The Stable was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we unhesitatingly recommend it to other travellers.
A beautiful property, with a lovely outdoor garden with outdoor sitting area. Could do with more crockery but thats all
Sheila
The property was modern and clean I did have to wipe out the fridge on arrival Im not sure why it is advertised as dementia friendly as no obvious signs of anything being different! There were lots of ants and hatching flies on the patio when we arrived. We poured water and washing up liquid on them which seemed to deter them a bit! There was no welcome pack of any kind! While I assume this is not obligatory, it was upsetting to read in the comments book on the table that others had received plum loaf, Prosecco and fresh flowers!

Loved the stables and Saxilby as a base to explore Lincolnshire Sorry to say the tree above parking area deposited sap etc over my vehicle I found this quite annoying but I am quite anal about my vehicle so it may be just me Ha Ha

Great location for visiting Lincoln City, only 10 mins away in the car. Chip shop and Chinese take away walking distance from property and both were delicious. Lovely and clean accommodation and a bonus for us was seeing red arrows coming over the area while they are training. Nice secure garden for the dog and side gate for drying her off without having to come into house all wet!
Our second visit to The Stable . Situated in a very good position for exploring Lincoln as close to trains and buses . Close to a general store and other shopscafe . Warm and comfortable for holidays in the colder months
Another break here,a quiet time with days out and evenings in. Booked to come again in June
Andrew
Lovely comfy cozy clean property. Only very minor issues were no grill pan for cooker, basic number of utensils ie Only 3 wine glasses, 4 of everything else, inferior basic utensils, cold entrance hall. These are only very minor issues and wouldn't stop us from rebooking again. We had a lovely stay in the stable and the Lincolnshire area. O e of the best we've stayed in. You won't be disappointed.
George
Impressed with the property would recommend to others
What a great find! ! We have stayed in many holiday cottages and the Stables is up there with the best! Tastefully furnished, lovely and warm, well equipped, good parking, very clean. Definitely want to go back, the garden looked great but was far too cold to go out. Saxilby is a lovely village and everyone was so friendly. Loved its proximity to so many places. Train station is few minutes from the cottage. It took 11 minutes on train into Lincoln 5.80 return for 2 people. Doddington Hall was 8 minutes. Pye Wipe pub was highly recommended, with good reason food was delicious 10 minutes. Great few days, definitely recommend
Dougie
The Stables was like a home from home and we had a very enjoyable stay. It is nicely located within a larger village with all the facilities you would require. Public transport is good with bus stops and railway station within a 5min walk. All in all a lovely property and village to base you holiday in.
Suzanne
A lovely clean modern house beautifully decorated in an excellent location close to a shop and two pubs. Very interesting village and close to Lincoln with good bus and rail links. Ideal for exploring North Lincolnshire. It is so nice we didn't want to leave.
The property is clean tidy and very well equipped In a quiet and friendly village, a great place just to chill or use a a base to venture to see the surrounding countryside.
Frances
Very clean property with secure garden for the dog and everything required for a comfortable stay. Handy position as near to the railway station and canal for walks. Great local chippy. Only downside for us was rowdy neighbours partying all weekend.
Francesca
A well presented and appointed property in a quiet location. Very handy for dog walking to the recreation ground. Lovely dog friendly pub at The Sun Inn and had a couple of meals there which were very good. The only negative, and just a minor one, the rear gardenlawn in need of some attention. Other local amenities on the door step and a good base for exoring further a field. Pity the weather went downhill so we left a day early but otherwise had a good stay and would recommend it to others.
Thank you for taking our last minute booking. We loved The Stable and it felt really comfortable and well equipped. The village was lovely and the people in both pubs and the few shops were friendly and helpful. The train station was a bonus enabling us to nip into Lincoln within 15 minutes and it was great to come back to the home comforts of The Stable with comfy beds, great shower and easy to use TV and WiFi. A fabulous find and a perfect short break for two adults and two teenagers. Would definitely recommend The Stable if staying in the area again!
This is a lovely property and the owner has tried to think of everything to make your stay comfortable. The village is very nice and people are friendly, well worth having a walk around. Shops are handy and the pubs seemed busy, we didn't use them. Fish and chips from the local shop were very nice. A good base to travel to local areas i.e. Doddington Hall was only 8 mins away. Would visit again
Jacqueline
It was one of the best properties I have booked. I didnt know how to work the TV but had plenty to do so didnt miss it. The neighbours were very welcoming it was just a lovely place to stay and very quiet. Will probably use it again as my nephew lives in Saxilby. I have already recommended it to my brother and his wife.
Jackie
This is a lovely and comfortable property in an ideal location to explore Lincoln and the surrounding area.
The Stable is a very homely comfortable property being close to all amenities ie shops, buses and even the train to go into Lincoln being only a short walking distance away from the property . It is in a very quiet location set back from the road and its somewhere we would return .
Beautiful cottage. Spotlessly clean with everything we needed would highly recommend.
Fantastic little cottage in the heart of Saxilby. Excellent location with local shops, eateries and pub in easy walking distance. The train station is a 3 min walk from the door and you can get a train to Lincoln in 12 minutes. Very reasonable cost at 9.70 return for our family of 5. The cottage itself was beautiful. Exceptionally clean and tidy. A good array of books, games and 2 smart tvs kept the kids entertained. Nice outside area which we didn't get chance to use as only here for a short stay. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything you would need to cook a nice meal. It was extremely hot when arrived on Friday and the owners very thoughtfully came and dropped off some fans to help keep cool. These were very welcome as it was over 30 degrees. I would highly recommend the cottage and would very much like to revisit the area for longer in the future and would not hesitate in returning here.
Our stay in the stable was wonderful. The cottage had everything to make use off although we ate out most of the time, our choice. It felt like home from the moment we entered the front door. The area was so peaceful and local people are so friendly. Although we didn't get to meet the owners in person all contact numbers were left for us in case we needed them. Also they had left us a lovely note, saying they are new to this. Well what can we say other than congratulation to you both you have done a fantastic job thank you. Wendy and Dudley.
